LOOK WHAT I GOT

My friend, Pat, is on a very long cross-country trip.  She and her husband, Jim, are stopping along the way and spending quality time checking out this great land of ours.  She told us she would be mailing to each member of her friendship group, what she coined as, a tacky souvenir.

Mine is rather cute though.  And useful too. What do you think? Thank you Pat.

SEW-CIAL

In my last blog I mentioned that Robin and I were going to meet Sew-Cal Gal in San Diego on Monday for a day of sewing.  I don't know if you heard, but that day turned out to be the hottest day on record ever in Los Angeles, 113 degrees.  That is very hot.  But, while sewing this

the view was this.  And the temperature was 78 degrees. But that is not the best part.  The best part was the ladies at the Sew-Cial (arranged for by Sew-Cal Gal) were all wonderful and talented and made us feel so welcome.  We hope to spend many more Sew-cials with this wonderful group of women.  Thank you for inviting us.

NEW BAG & NEW PROJECT

The latest McCall's Quilting Magazine had this cool bag and pattern.  It is pretty large.  Large enough to use when traveling.  My dear friend, Sue and I get together the first weekend in December (for the last 30+ years) and I think it will make a great gift for her.  Only I am going to make hers out of San Francisco fabric.  I can show you this because she never looks at her computer.  So, this is my dry run.  I think it turned out pretty cute.

Tomorrow Robin (my business partner) and I are getting together with Sew Cal Gal  and sewing at her Sew-Cial.  I have selected this to take with me.  I forgot I needed a white; but, caught that when I cut it out.

I love making this pattern of Robin's, East Meets West, so I am going to be enjoying everything about my day tomorrow: good company, perfect location; and a fun project.

CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE FOR SEPTEMBER

Back to that Christmas in July Swap with Amanda.   September's Christmas challenge is a Christmas-themed doll.  I am NOT a doll maker; but, I thought I might be able to come up with something that could work.  I received a sewing project book for my birthday and found that "perfect for me" project that just might fit the bill. Then I found this wool remnant at Joann's, and a few other bits and pieces to start the process.

Here lies the poor unstuffed thing.

After a few more embellishments, Angie the Cat Angel is born.  She is very sweet and perhaps the only stuffed doll-like creature I will ever make.  Now, I wonder if Noelle will like it?

NEWEST SEWING ADDICTION

Geta had this great tutorial on her blog recently and it is my current sewing addiction.  I love making these little boxes.  I had some leftover charms and decided to see how it would make up.  It turned out so cute that I went out and bought this cute charm pack, "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by Moda, to make a few more. Why did I buy yet another charm pack?  Because it was just so darn cute is why.
Then the decision is what should be the outside and what should be the inside?  Oh if all life's decisions where so difficult, hey? But I think I like this.
But, I just couldn't stop.  Aren't they just so cute?  Thank you Geta for a great tutorial.  Now what to do with them all.

A Customer

Audrey, a quilt member at our last quilt show bought this kit from Two Wacky Women.  I wonder if she has completed it?  You don't think it just went into her stash do you?

CIRCUS CHARITY QUILT FINISHED

And to think this circus fabric was rejected.  I can't help but think some little girl will love it.  It is quilted, bound, washed and ready for Community Relations at Quilters by the Sea Quilt Guild.

TWO WACKY WOMEN AT A QUILT SHOW

Two Wacky Women spent Friday and Saturday vending at Quilters Piece Corp Quilt Show in Victorville, CA.  Here is our booth.  We are winding down on the vending portion of our business, only a few shows left for us.  We have loved all the wonderful guilds we have vended for and we know we are going to miss these weekends.  But, darn it is hard work for a couple of retired wacky women.  And, our first love is our retreat business.....and that is NOT going away.

Had to share my favorite quilt at the show.  And, it was directly across from our booth.

CHARITY QUILTS

My friends on CRAFT Yahoo group had a sew-in over last weekend.  This is my contribution.  Most made foundation string quilts.  But, I had a jelly roll and a quick pattern that screamed "Use Me".  So here it is.  It is going to my guild for Community Relations.
Trudy manages to get in a lot of photos, because she is ALWAYS there.  Gracie got into this shot.  It is blurry I know.  However, she wandered in right after Trudy and I couldn't resist taking another quick shot.  Thus the blur.
Another charity quilt that is only half quilted.  It is turning out to be pretty cute.  It should be ready soon.

DOG CABIN

Do you remember the Pets on Quilts Show that Sew Cal Gal recently had on her blog?  Wasn't it fun?  There were prizes for various things and there were many lucky winners.  See what I won.  A great book Dog Cabin and others A Fast Fun Theme-Quilt Project by Kay Mackenzie.  It is a great fun project book with tons of helpful tips.  Thank you to both Kay and Sew Cal Gal for this lovely gift. I know some little ones who will love a quilt using this book and that poodle fabric I've been collecting.

GOING TO A BARBEQUE

I remember reading in Peg Bracken's, I Hate to Cook cookbook, that store bought croutons taste like they were made using sewing machine oil.  I'm not sure how she would know that; but, I always remembered that.  And, croutons are oh, so good homemade and very easy to do.  Just melt some butter and add some seasoning you like and toss some bread into the mix.  Bake at 300 for 20 minutes.

I've been invited to a barbeque and am bringing a ceasar salad.  Ceasar salads must have croutons don't you think?  Now to just get it tossed and across the street.  Is the wine chilled?

LYN BROWN MYSTERY UPDATE

Here is my mystery block for Lyn Brown's Puddle Jump Mystey.  Confession:  once I realized what it was, I used a different Medium.  Still have more sewing to do on this project.  I am really liking it so far.
