FINISHED-ON-FRIDAY (Wk 22)

This is how far I got on the baby-boy quilt.  Panels almost piece themselves.  There is a sense of order that just comes along with a panel.  So the piecing just about happened by itself.

The picture is a bit blurred; but, it is quilted.  Here are a couple of close ups.

There is a lot more quilting than I would normally do for a baby quilt; but, I just couldn't stop myself.  There is so much going on in the panel.  I bet Wyland must just keep going on like that.  Long Beach has a Wyland, Whaling wall downtown.  It was quite controversial when he painted it.  I love it.  It makes me smile.

It still needs a binding and I have enough of this left over from the T-Shirt quilt I could use.
Otherwise, I have to go shopping.  Oh horrors!  Have a good weekend and

Quilt happy,

Marilyn

TWO FIISHED QUILTS

I was asked to make a T-Shirt quilt for a graduating high-school student.  He will be going to college in the fall and it was designed to fit on his dorm bed, which is a Twin Extra Long.

I didn't quilt it.  My friend Sue Salinger did.  Didn't she do a great job?  I hope he likes it.

Another new finish is this one for my granddaughter who is turning twenty-one in July.   This is her birthday quilt.

I hadn't bought enough backing fabric, so I made a giant four patch.  I quilted it in a fairly simple and comfy style.

The patch was something my granddaughter had pinned on pinterest.  It just had to live here.  I'm pretty sure she doesn't read my blog, so she will be surprised. I hope you are having a good week and that you

MAKE-IT-MONDAY

I need a baby quilt for a "yet-to-be-born" baby boy.  I found this great Wyland panel in my stash; and, with a few added pieces, I think it will be perfect.

Check back on Friday to see how far I have gotten on it.  And, in the meantime,

Quilt happy,

MY NEW BAG

My friend, Pam, over at Versana, sent me this gorgeous bag.  And, I did nothing to deserve it.  But, I love it; and, I'm keeping it.

Thank you Pam.  You are a special lady for sure.

Speaking of special, did you get your Memorial Day Poppy yet?

I remember the veterans coming door to door with poppies when I was a child.  I got this poppy from a veteran when I went to the grocery store today.  Made me smile.

Quilt happy,

Marilyn

FINISHED-ON-FRIDAY (Wk 21)

Oh what a fun shopping week.  I found almost everything I had in my mind.  I have a bed skirt on order.  It is one of those elastic ones so I will no longer have to lift the mattress to apply or adjust the darn thing.   Here are the before and after photos.

The picture on the armoire will need to be changed.  It really needs a nice summer scene or at least a beachy sign.  I'll find it.  Do you see Gracie photo bombing?

Have a good weekend and

MAKE-IT-MONDAY

My creative bent this week will be summerizing my bedroom.  So, instead of spending a lot of time in my quilt room, I will be shopping for things other than fabric.  I already picked up a few things when I hit Ikea with my BFF a couple of weeks ago.

Okay, ready, set, shop!

Quilt happy,

FINISHED-ON-FRIDAY (Wk 20)

FINISHED-ON-FRIDAY  (Wk 20)

That Monday fabric became a couple of clutch bags.  Clutch bags are becoming so popular and these were super easy to make.

The patchwork one I backed with a mid-weight fusible interfacing and just stitched in the ditch. Then I used a batik for lining and put a zipper in the usual way.

On this more modern looking clutch, I used a home dec fabric and did not use interfacing for the outside fabric.  However, I did use interfacing on the lining which is muslin.  It is also cut larger and a pocket was added with a place to attach your keys if wanted.  The zipper is inserted using tabs.

I remember loving clutch bags back in the 80s.   I wonder if I will like using them now?

Have a good weekend and

FINISHED-ON-FRIDAY (Wk 19)

                      or

THE THREE CONTAINERS

You see these cute fabric containers all over the internet, on blogs, on  Pinterest, even in books. My plan was to make some of these fabric containers which should go together rather quickly.  Some of the ones I've seen are made from linen with cotton lining.  I had a few remnants of home dec fabric and decided to go with this.
The first one is made with no interfacing, thinking the home dec fabric would hold up.  But, it is too soft.  (never mind that it upside down with directional fabric)

The next one is made a tad smaller using heavy weight (maybe even extra heavy weight) fusible interfacing.  And, it is too hard.  Besides I don't like the size.  (but it was right side up)

The third one is using a mid weight fusible interfacing.  And, it is just right.

Since I was on such a roll, I made three more all just right.

And, they are convertible.

By the way, the "too soft" container inside out is right side up.  Oh, I so meant to do that.  Ha!  Now what are they going to contain?

Have a good weekend and

MAKE-IT-MONDAY

Another fast project (I think).  If I have time, I may make more of these.  Our guild is having a boutique and need small items to sell.  I have a few ideas that may help.

Have a good week and

THREE FINISHES AND ONE NEARLY

A few days ago I told you I had high hopes that I would finish these four quilts by the end of the week. I missed that deadline.  Here is the status:  these three are finished clear through the binding and the labels.

They are going to Community Relations for Quilters by the Sea Quilt Guild.  Then there is this one:

I'm still quilting.  However, it is very close to being finished.  I only have to quilt the borders and bind it.  I didn't have any backing fabric that would really work.  So, a trip to M & L's sister store, Jenny's was in order.  I found a great matchy background and picked up what I thought would be plenty.  And, you guessed it, it was about 1/2 yard shy even by setting it width wise.  When it's finished, I'll show you my remedy.  I hope you have had a good weekend.

Quilt happy,
Marilyn

FINISHED-ON-FRIDAY (Wk 18)

Remember that happy fabric from Monday?  It became this.

An armchair sewing organizer/pincushion thingy.  I found it on Pinterest. I am addicted to Pinterest.  It went together very quickly and I'm pretty sure I will find it useful.

Hope you have a good weekend planned and

Quilt happy,

Marilyn

I have high hopes that I will be able to show you all four of these tops quilted by the end of the week.

Better hurry.
