ANOTHER FINISH AND THREE READY TO GO

“Out of Africa” is finally finished, right though the binding. It is a product of a 2014 Row Swap. I think it’s my new favorite. My favorites change often. But, for now….

I have put together a few kits to take with me to our Big Bear retreat.

The perfect guy quilt kit.

This is another guy quilt kit.

But, this is a girly “Quilt As You Go Quilt”. This is the first time I have ever used this technique. I made this sample block. It’s going to be fun!

Hope you have a good week and

Quilt happy,

Marilyn

BOY QUILT PART TROIS

The Boy Quilt is now a flimsy.  I'm happy with how it grew up.

I'll be mailing it up to my Wacko peep, Sue, in Lincoln to quilt for me.  It measures 69.5 x 84.5.  Larger than I want to tackle on my domestic machine.  Yes, I know I can; I just don't want to.  And, Sue does such good work.

Hope your week is going well and you

NEW PROJECT - PART 1

I have a granddaughter who loves owls and turquoise.  I found this kit in my stash.

Pretty good I'd say.  It's cut out and ready to go. That's part one!

BOY QUILT PART 2

I am this far into the Boy Quilt.  As you can see I picked blue for the sashing.  I only wish I had purchased enough to be able to extend that border out using the same fabric. But, I didn't so I will need to add more as it is growing up to be a twin-size quilt.

Stay tuned for part 3.  I have a few things that MUST get done first.

Hope you are having a good week and

Quilt happy,

BIRTHDAY BLOCKS

I belong to a friendship group that call themselves Talking Threads (AKA the TTs).  We meet once a month at different members homes. This year we are making birthday blocks (you chose your own theme) for each member and give them out on the birthday girl's month. Yesterday was our meeting and we have four July birthdays.  One TT selected Spools, any kind, any style, any size. Another selected the double pinwheel block in red, white, and blue.  And, another selected any 12" pieced star in red, white, and blue. I only wish I had pulled out my phone to take pictures.  I selected the theme "What's in my Garden" any size, any style.  Here is what I received:

Aren't they wonderful?  Each one is so unique; I love them all. Thank you ladies for a wonderful selection.  Oh, and today is my birthday.  Now to figure out a setting.  Let the fun begin!

Hope you are having a good week and

ARMCHAIR CADDY

I think I may have found a way for my mom to keep track of her notebook I made her last week.  An armchair caddy.  There are all sorts of them around for sewing.  But, I designed this one just as a caddy.  My mom's chair is sort of Mauveish (is that a word)?  So I dug around in my stash until I found this:

I used some 809 Pellon interfacing on the lining and pockets, and 987F Fusible Fleece Pellon on the outside piece. It needed a pocket large enough to hold her notepad.

What do you think?

Me too.  And, her notebook fits perfectly.

Hope you have a good week and

CHARM PACK PROJECT

I was working on Emerald and made an error; significant enough to make me decide to put it away for a couple of days.  I will like it better then.
So, I decided to make a nice and easy distraction project.  I brought my travel machine with me and it has been sitting out looking a bit naked.

I have seen this very cute cover on Pinterest and even facebook.  It uses a charm pack and most of us have plenty of those laying around.  I had a basicgrey/origins for Moda charm pack.   The tutorial calls for only 24 charms and solid for the sides.  But, my charm pack had enough to go ahead and make the sides out of some additional charms.

Turned out cute don't you think?  Now I can get back to that Emerald quilt.

HSTs

Today I made 142 HSTs (Half-Square Triangles) the old fashioned way.

That's right.  By drawing a line corner to corner and stitching 1/4" on either side.  Yes, I know there are HST papers for that.  And normally I would have used them.  But, I am traveling and I do not have any with me.  And, they needed to be 2 and 3/4" square.  Yes I did square up all 142 of them.  Can you say, tired shoulders and back?

A FINISH

Well almost.  A finished quilt top at least.  It is from the book "Successful Scrap Quilts" by Sandy Turner and Margaret Rolfe.

I am pretty sure it won't get quilted until I get home.  I still have plenty to work on.

I pulled this put-together kit out to get started on this week.

I have always wanted to make a Bento Box and this has been cut up and ready to go for at least a year.  Another one I grabbed to go.  Not sure how far I will get on it this week.  I'll let you know on Friday.  May be just all play.  One can only hope.

Have a good week and

Quilt happy,

I'M SEWING

Yes, I'm sewing.  I finally got myself set up to sew.  Gee it feels good.  I have had this cut out ready to go for probably over a year.  So, when I packed my car for travel, I stuck this and a few more quilt tops I have cut and ready to go.

It's nice not to have to make fabric decisions.  I find that takes almost as much time as putting it all together.  I'll give you a progress report on Friday.

Have a good week and

Quilt happy,

GIANT COASTER

My Aussie friends had to meet a weight allowance on their way back home, so I inherited these 3” squares.  Oh, I have more . . . .

I know.  Lucky me.  I have needed a table topper for my side table and I immediately could see these working out nicely.  So I found some neutral fabric to blend and started auditioning.

 Voila!

Now that’s one giant coaster.  I hope you

A BUNCH OF HSTs

My newest project is all blue and white HSTs (half-square triangles).  It takes 320 of the little darlings; and, by the way, it is taking longer than anticipated.

But I will tell you that I already know this quilt is going to be one of my favorites.

FRIDAY FLIMSY

It’s Friday Flimsy.  I told Pat over at Pat’s Patter, that I wanted to participate in this challenge, hoping to get more accomplished.  So today I am quilting this flimsy for the Veterans.

Here is another soon-to-be flimsy.  I made 160 half-square triangles.  Yes, I counted them.

 Quilt happy,

HOUSES & WEDDINGS

The Orange Grove Quilters Guild is collecting blocks for their 2013 Opportunity Quilt.  This is the block I am making.  The door and windows still need to be appliquéd down.  It’s a bit different than the usual house block.  I like it.  It’s interesting don’t you think?

My granddaughter, Rachel, is getting married this summer.  Of course she is getting a quilt.  I had her select a pattern and color way for her quilt.  She selected Robin’s Lattice Patch pattern using black and white with red as her colors.  Here is the collection so far.

Think I'm going to have fun with this one.

Quilt happy,

MORE NEW PROJECTS

Yesterday my BFF and I did a bit of Two Wacky Women shopping.  We started out in downtown Los Angeles.  Look what I found for one wacky woman.

I’m thinking this will make some quick and easy placemats.
I'm also making more quilts for our veterans.  It's a start.

VETERAN'S QUILT PART II

This is not turning out as I had hoped.  But, it is using up 18 fat quarters from my stash.  I hope someone at the VA will like it.

NEW PROJECT

I am making thirty-five small gifts that need to be ready mid January.   I think prepping will be the longest time consumer.
I have roughly one-third completed.  Turning out pretty cute.  You'll see.....
