I belong to a wonderful friendship group. We call ourselves "Wednesday Wackos", because we meet on Wednesdays, and yes, we are a bit wacko. But most of all these women are a loving, caring, giving, and beautiful group of women.
I have had a few recent upsets in my life. A couple of family deaths, and I took a little fall. I haven't even been home for the past two and a half months. But, look what came in the mail today--all the way to Florida.
I know! Isn't is beautiful? What a wonderful surprise. Guess what I'm sleeping with tonight? Trudy immediately tried it out. It's folded up nicely at the moment. This is my 2nd quilt from this wonderful group of women. I can be a bit clumsy. If I was home, I would also show you that quilt.
Love all of you Wacko Sisters!

HAVING A SICK DAY
Today I woke up not feeling so hot. Actually, I went to bed last night not feeling so hot.
I think tea and honey might be better; but, I don't have any and I'm staying in today.
My wonderful daughter stopped everything and made me some good old-fashioned chicken soup and drove it over. She's taking good care of me.
And these two fluff balls are also taking care of me.
I think I am in good hands and paws.
Quilt happy,
Marilyn

TWO FINISHED QUILTS
This is such a busy time of year for everyone, and I am not getting much sewing done. I actually pulled out my sewing machine and thought I may get something done; but, not so far. It is at least plugged in and ready to go once the mood strikes.
I did manage to finish one quilt with a huge help from my granddaughter Madeline. I went to the local quilt guild here and one of the ladies is very involved in Quilts of Valor. In a very matter-of-fact way, she pointed out that I had plenty of time to finish a quilt for them while I was here. So here it is:
Madeline pieced the disappearing 9 patch blocks and I assembled it, put the borders on, and included a binding made in the blue fabric. They seemed pleased to get it at their December meeting. Obligation fulfilled (insert smiley face).
While I'm showing finished quilts, I was in charge of this year's President's quilt at Quilters by the Sea in Long Beach.
I wasn't there to see Susan receive it; but, I'm sure she likes it.
Hope you are having a good week.
Quilt happy,
Marilyn

EMERALD QUILT & COLOR OF THE YEAR
Okay, so I will still need to quilt it; but, the top is done!
I have decided to make a quilt each year using the Pantone color of the year. I started this a while back when I became aware of this and the very fun names they are using. In 2012 the color of the year was Tangerine Tango.
It wasn't hard to put this color in a quilt because I love fall colors. I ended up giving that quilt to my daughter to use as raffle quilt for a fund raiser.
2013's color of the year is Emerald. This was harder to find in fabric. But, while at a quilt retreat in Hanford, CA, I found the perfect piece of batik and picked up a few yards with no particular pattern in mind.
Eventually I settled on a Goose in the Pond pattern.
I had made it once before as a mystery quilt and gave it away. But, I always loved that particular pattern.
I still love this pattern and can't wait to quilt it. I'm not giving this one away.
See Trudy photo bombing?
Radiant Orchid has been named 2014 color of the year.
Up until very recently, it had been listed as #3 on the Pantone list with Dazzling Blue as #1. I'm glad I hadn't bought any fabric. And, I have an idea on how to use Radiant Orchid in a quilt.
Have a good weekend and
Quilt happy,
Marilyn

CHARM PACK PROJECT
I was working on Emerald and made an error; significant enough
to make me decide to put it away for a couple of days. I will like it better then.
So, I decided to make a nice and easy distraction
project. I brought my travel machine
with me and it has been sitting out looking a bit naked.
I have seen this very cute cover on Pinterest and even
facebook. It uses a charm pack and most of us have plenty of those laying around. I had a basicgrey/origins for
Moda charm pack. The tutorial calls for
only 24 charms and solid for the sides.
But, my charm pack had enough to go ahead and make the sides out of some
additional charms.
Turned out cute don't you think? Now I can get back to that Emerald quilt.
Have a good week and
Quilt happy
