QUILT GUILD UFO CHALLENGE

2017 is here; and, I am hopeful that it will be a great year. The last couple of weeks of 2016 threw me against the wall. I had one nasty cold or something.

So now I am looking forward to 2017 with a guild challenge to finish some UFOs. Each year we have the same challenge. You select five UFOs from your stack (some of us have more to select from than others).  Finished means quilted, bound, and labeled. The first one you can choose. Then the other 4 are picked at random. These are the five I have selected:

#1 (that’s a number sign for me) is “Random Hearts”. It has to be completed by January 11th. Yay, it’s done.

And, a close up of Bear's Quilt Shop quilting:

#2 What’s in My Garden?

#3 Quilt As You Go – Wonky Log Cabin

#4 Joe Cunningham’s - Modern City Block

#5 Bright Stripes quilt

I hope you have a good week and

Quilt happy,

THREE NEW UFOs

I was at a quilting retreat last week. And, you know what? I now have three more UFOs. Oh yes I do.
This quilt needs 60 blocks. But, after a full day of making these blocks, I got a bit bored and took on my second project that was all cut and ready to go.

It requires a boat load of blocks and again, I was ready to move on after about ten hours of sewing the same block.

This is a quilt as you go project and it is probably a bit more fun watching it come together….and I like the colors a lot. So, I worked on this for two full days.

But, in the end, I came home with three new UFOs. (Unfinished Objects)

At least I quilted and turned in a little baby quilt for our guild’s philanthropy. Another member had pieced it.

Hope you have a good week and

Quilt happy,

Marilyn

UFO UPDATE

Not a lot of sewing going on around here.  I've been a bit under the weather.

However,  I did get a little bit done on my #3 UFO.

I have plans for the pathways and empty spaces.  Also, I picked up a dark brown to go into the boarder in some way.  Still playing.

And, just to make you smile,

daffodils!

Hope you have a good week and

UFO 3

Number 3 has been selected for the UFO challenge due at our May guild meeting.  My number 3 UFO on the list is a birthday block swap from my Talking Threads friendship group. Each of us selected a theme we wanted and at our birthday month meeting we were showered with birthday quilt blocks.

I selected "What's In My Garden" for my July birthday. The block could be any size and any style.  Aren't they all wonderful? What a talented group of women!  Next week I'll post my progress.  I have some ideas.

Hope you have a good week and

Quilt happy,

CINDY'S PANDA TWIST

Cindy's 4th UFO isn't due until the October Quilter's by the Sea Guild meeting.  But, I got the top finished today.  I had contemplated adding a ribbon border.  But, I called my BFF, Robin, after I messaged her a photo, and we decided it was done. After all, the Panda is the star. A ribbon border may be distracting.
It is a classic Garden Twist pattern.  I was able to find all the blocks, including the set-in triangles, in a bag.  Cindy also had more of the black and black and white prints.   I only had to add one triangle to a corner to get all the Pandas looking at us.  Now, what do you think?  Should the binding be the black and white polka dot or use the black and keep it simple, simple, simple?

JUNE'S UFO IS DONE

It's finished, completed and in time for the June deadline.  I'm so glad I joined in our guild's challenge to complete some UFOs.  Done is good.  Someone said it reminded them of chopsticks and sushi.
I guess it does.  So, it is now known as Chopsticks.
My cheater label.  It's a label.  Good as it's getting at this time.  I have a busy, busy month.  Thanks for stopping by.

PROGRESS REPORT

I found a red that will work for Cindy's UFO.  The top is done.

Best of all, when I went to pick out a red fabric, the gal who cut my fabric knew Cindy.  She is a member of our guild and knew I was working on Cindy's UFOs.  That really made it special.  I know I will get to know more about Cindy as time goes on.

Now on to the quilting, and binding, and putting a label on it (and they check for that label when it gets declared finished). Can't get by with a thing these days.

Quilt happy,
Marilyn

ON THE DESIGN WALL

On the design wall today is another UFO.  Two more need to be completed by our June Guild meeting.  So, I picked the easiest to do first.  I wonder if that is smart?  I am working on Cindy's 2nd UFO.  I wrote about her here .  And I am working on this set of blocks:

So far I have this small square.  Now to start adding some borders to get it to a decent size.  The problem is that this is all of this fabric I have.  I need to find something that will be complimentary.  Not the easiest when there is no clue to the fabric line or date.  So, I will take a trip to M & L and punt.  This will eventually go to the guild.  Maybe it will be a table topper.  Or, maybe a child's quilt.  Even a lap quilt for a wheelchair-bound person.  The guild is also looking for quilts for an auction at our quilt show in October.  So the final resting place for these blocks of Cindy's is still TBD.

Check back in a few days; maybe I'll have the top done.

Quilt happy,
Marilyn

A.A.A.D.D.

Have you seen the joke going around the internet right  now about Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder?  I think I am suffering that today.  I just can't stay focused on any one thing.
I do a little quilting................
Then I decide to get lunch and notice I have a cauliflower getting old in the fridge and stop and make a roasted cauliflower soup.  It was good by the way.

Then I cut a couple more Quilting Kits that we need for our upcoming Two Wacky Women Quilting Retreat in March.

After I cut a couple more kits, I decided I really should at least start on my UFO project I have committed to finish by April.  I had put it aside because

I made over 200 half-square triangles 4" instead of 3-1/2".  Don't ask.  So I have to cut them all down to size before I can make these blocks
and put the quilt top together, then layer and quilt it, and bind it, get the label on it in time for our April guild meeting.  Then I get on the computer and...................

CINDY'S BLOCKS

A while ago I posted on "Someone Else's UFOs".  Today I finished one.

Cindy had a whole slew of blocks of which I have no idea what her plans for them were.  She could have had a king-size bed quilt in mind for all I know.  See that row in the back -- that is what I used to make this:

I think she would be happy to see it go to some child don't you?  Still more to go.  But, think I'll work on a UFO of my own next.  Gosh knows I have plenty.

Quilt happy,
Marilyn
