CHARITY QUILT

Erin over at My Patchwork Life, has put together a huge undertaking of getting quilts to the Hurricane Sandy Victims.  I can only imagine how overwhelmed she has been.  I know a lot of you made blocks and sent to Erin.  I took a couple of the quilt tops over to finish quilting and mailing them off for her.  I did a simple stitch-in-the-ditch quilting and sewed the binding by machine using the faux-piping method.

One went out at the end of last year; this one is going out in tomorrow’s mail.  I hope it make someone's day brighter.

ROAD TO CALIFORNIA (PART 3)

I cannot forget to show you one more quilt from Road.

I’m sure you can find better pictures of this quilt out there; but, they had it well lit, which didn’t help me get a decent picture.  But, trust me, this is a stunning quilt.  Truly beautiful.  And it got the top honor.

If you were not able to get to Road to California this year, I hope that one year you can.  You will be happy you did.  In the meantime

Quilt happy,

Marilyn

MAKE-IT-MONDAY (Wk 5)

This week I am sewing a useful, small project for my quilt guild’s workshop.  I’m using orange because I already had the orange zippers. And, that's a good enough reason for me.  Still sticking with my goal of using from my stash if at all possible.

ROAD TO CALIFORNIA (PART 2)

This was a very fun group quilt put together by a group of talented bloggers.  You can read about it here and here:

How many of us remember that trip down Route 66?  Or even the old TV show?  Or the song?  Well, some of us do....

ROAD TO CALIFORNIA (PART 1)

Yesterday was my Road to California day.  It is always such a great show.  I want to share a little of it with you.

Just a glimpse of the busy aisles
A few of my favorites:

A couple of wonderful Bargellos

And last night Robin, of Robin Quilts, Etc., was part of the Roundabout.  This is an evening event where selected teachers have 10 minutes to demonstrate a small project or a tool, a bell rings, and everyone changes teachers.  It was amazingly organized.  Robin demonstrated her Loyalty Wallet.  Sorry,  Even though I helped out, I do not have a picture of the wallet.   No sample, nada.  But, here are a couple of pictures of the busy event.

I'll save more for later so not to bore you all at once.

FINISHED-ON FRIDAY

Remember those sweet fat quarters from Monday.  They now are living as some cute lavender sachets.

I suppose they could be sweet smelling pin cushions; but, these are destined for the lingerie drawer.   I hope you

GIANT COASTER

My Aussie friends had to meet a weight allowance on their way back home, so I inherited these 3” squares.  Oh, I have more . . . .

I know.  Lucky me.  I have needed a table topper for my side table and I immediately could see these working out nicely.  So I found some neutral fabric to blend and started auditioning.

 Voila!

Now that’s one giant coaster.  I hope you

MAKE-IT-MONDAY

It is Road to California week here in Southern California.  That is sorta like Disneyland for quilters.  So I have a nice and easy project for this week using these sweet fat quarters.

MEXICAN STAR

Khristina McCarthey, a friend visiting from Australia, and I took a workshop at Quilters by the Sea Quilt Guild last Saturday.  Ann Turley was the teacher who taught this great little quilt. It is called The Mexican Star.

I finished the top this morning and started quilting it.  I think the quilting is going to take longer than the piecing.  Khristina finished hers clear through the binding.  Show off. ;o)

Quilt happy,

FINISHED ON FRIDAY

So, this is the little wool-felt bag with a zipper flower.  I showed you the fabric on "Make-it-Monday".  I think it may need a couple more of these flowers; but, they are pretty heavy.

The inside is lined with that gometric fabric with one little old pocket for a cell phone.

Hmmmm....I wonder which granddaughter would like this one.  I hope you

MAKE-IT-MONDAY

I found this gray wool felt remnant at Joann’s a while back and paid a song for it.  I put it aside until I thought of something that would work.  Also found in a drawer, was this geometric-print fabric that I had picked up for 50% off during a quilt run last year.  Now to make them both useful.

PRESIDENT'S QUILT

As with most quilt guilds, Quilters by the Sea Quilt Guild gives the president a "President's Quilt" when their term ends.  And, it is the past president who makes the quilt.  As the 2011 QBS president, it was my job to make a quilt for our 2012 president, Susan Contreras.  I handed out directions for cat blocks and the black and white dot fabric.  Our quilters then got creative.

I assembled the handed-in cat blocks and named it:  Oh That Cat.  Sue Salinger quilted it.  We presented it to Susan at Thursday's meeting (Jan 10, 2012).

Thank you for your service to QBS Susan.  I hope you

FINISHED-ON-FRIDAY

I am so, sew happy with this small project.

 It’s a heating pad cover.

I used scraps for the wonky-ish front; and, for the back, one fat quarter from my stash.
It is sandwiched with a cotton batting and muslin.  And, most important… it makes me smile.  I © it.  Now, the next time I need a heating pad, just pulling out this little jewel will make me feel better.  At least that’s the goal.  I hope you

Quilt happy,

WORKSHOP IN FLOWERS

Yesterday I took a fabulous workshop at my local guild, Orange Grove Quilters' Guild.  Linda Sackin, a member, taught this great quilt:

The ladies really enjoyed cutting out their flowers and arranging their bouquets:

Here is my bouquet:

And a close up:

Now to quilt that bouquet down.  I loved doing it and I love my bouquet.  I hope you

Quilt happy,

MAKE-IT-MONDAY Week 2

Remember that box of scraps?  It’s still there, so I pulled this selection from it for this week’s project.  I may be pushing my luck with these scraps; but, I think what I have in mind is going to work.

Maybe the remaining scraps, from that box, needs to be put to rest for awhile.  I think I will have something fun for Finished-on-Friday.

Quilt happy,

FINISHED-ON FRIDAY

This is the first go of using up some of those scraps I posted on Monday.  It is a great little project for the 1st of the year since one can always use an extra thank-you card or two.

I so enjoyed making these note cards, and I can tell you that these little guys can be quite addictive. I have put aside a couple of needles just for stitching cardstock. Now to get those thank you cards written.

Quilt happy,

Marilyn
