TWO NEW QUILTS

Wahoo! Two more quilts almost finished this week.

My friend, Sue Salinger, and I took a Joe Cunningham class last summer in Palm Springs. What a fun class and a fun process. And look what I managed to put together from the class. I can see myself making this over and over again. Each one would turn out different.

I’m calling this “City Block”. It still needs to be quilted and bound. I'm planning on making a facing binding. This is on my UFO list and is due at my March meeting. I think I’ll get it done in time.

The boy quilt got quilted. Yay! Thank you Bears for such a quick turnaround.
It’s a good size quilt. 70 x 90. I’m hoping to get it bound this weekend. I really like this one. Plus, it’s Gracie approved.

I hope you have a good week and

Quilt happy,

Marilyn

SUNDAY SNAPS

This week’s prompts:

“In My Town Today”
Was a very wet and gloomy day. You can see that the water pooled up over the curbs and covered the parking strips. At one point, someone was kayaking at the end of the block.

 “This is Mine”
My early morning addiction is coffee.

“What I Do”
I sew, almost every day, I sew.

“In the Background”
When I took this picture I was going for the lake that was forming in my backyard.  But, in the background is the mat I have hung so the dogs cannot peek through the slats in the fence to find an excuse to bark.

“Yum”
This is when a picture says a thousand word.

“I Can’t Live without a”
I really can’t live without a dog. At least I don’t want to live without a dog.

“A Sign”
They have been working on the underground water pipes, even moving the fire hydrant, for months. They are returning again tomorrow and I have big hopes this is the final repair of the road they keep digging up.

These prompts are from Fat Mum Slim’s Photo-A-Day. On Instagram she is #fmspad. I hope you enjoy them.

MONDAY MUSINGS

This week was Road to California. Road is just always a fun time. Usually my friends and I take one or two classes. But, this year we decided not to, and instead just went to the show. Of course, as usual I never pulled out my camera. So, I pinched this one from my friend, Sue’s, Facebook page.
Isn’t it a great picture? This was taken on Friday, a no-rain day during this stormy time frame.  But, today was a different story. It rained almost non-stop all day.

It was like a small lake out front. In fact, there was some kids in a small boat at the end of the block.

But, back to Road. Here is the loot I picked up at the show.

Those rubber banded bundles are cork fabric. It’s quite new and from Portugal. The pattern is for a small wallet. We saw it made up using the cork fabric.

This is the UFO picked to be finished by our March guild meeting. It is called "Rock the Block", by Joe Cunningham. A very free form way of making it. No real pattern. My friend Sue and I took it at a class in Palm Springs last summer.
I will say, because of this weather, I am getting a lot done on it this weekend

I hope you have a good week and

Quilt happy,

Marilyn

SUNDAY SNAPS

This week’s prompts:

“Where I Sleep”
“Do I have to move over Mom?”

 “Music”

This picture is in my archives. My grandson loves music and takes both Chorus and Band. He is in Middle School now.

“Today”

A nice view at lunch today.

“Bag”

We have had to bring our own bags to shop here in Long Beach sine 2011. Now all of California does. I have quite a variety by now.

“A Shape”

I love this quilt project with shapes in shapes.

“Something white”

Nothing really to add here.

“Grow”

The Japanese Tulip tree grows it’s flowers before the leaves. I planted this tree when my 10-year-old granddaughter was born.

MONDAY MUSINGS

Birthday quilt blocks for January and February are done. We didn’t have a January meeting. I’m not even sure why that is; but, we will in February.
Here they are:

Barbara’s Block

Justine’s Block

Gayle’s Block

I did finish the boy quilt top.
It measures 70 x 90 and will be off to Bear’s on Tuesday.

I hope you have a good week and

Quilt happy,

SUNDAY SNAPS

This week's prompts

Sunday:  Wall

Being a quilter means walls get adorned with quilts.

Monday:  Mail
Sadly, I rarely get anything in my mailbox at the front door other than advertisements. Almost all my “mail” is electronic these days.

Tuesday:  Two Things
Needle and thread of course.

Wednesday:  Inside my Fridge
This is a very weird prompt in my opinion.  So, liquids on my door it is.

Thursday:  Leaf

Because it was a rainy day, I took a picture of an indoor plant. This plant has a variety of colorful leaves and shapes.

Friday:  People
I took this picture at a meeting with Southern California Counsil of Quilt Guild. Quilters love sharing and looking at whatever the current project is.

Saturday:  Path
This path is in my backyard. It leads to my favorite tree (and the squirrels) my avocado tree.

These prompts are from FatMum Slim’s Foto-A-Day. On Instagram she is #fmspad. I hope you enjoy it.

MONDAY MUSINGS

My BFF, Robin, and I did our first quilt store shopping this week. I know, I know Road to California is right around the corner. But, still it’s fun to hit up the few local brick and mortar stores we have left here. They seem to be disappearing so quickly to on-line shopping.

Each year we pick out a theme to shop for while visiting quilt stores. I’ve done Ethnics, Words, Tone on Tones, polka dots. This year I’ve decided on stripes.

Yes, I couldn’t resist a few Word fabrics. But, I’m on my way with stripes.

Sadly, not a lot of sewing got done last week; but, I did manage to work a little on my boy quilt.

I am still trying to decide on the setting,

I hope you have a good week and

Quilt happy,

Marilyn

SUNDAY SNAPS

I decided to bring Sunday Snaps back. I missed having that other creative thinking side to use each day. I’ll try to tell you how I decided upon each snap if possible or fitting.

Day 1:  My Fave Color
I really like most colors. But, I decided to go with the 2017 Pantone color of the year, Greenery.

Day 2:  Delicious
I find a yogurt parfait made with plain Greek yoghurt and homemade granola just so delicious. It's really that simple.

Day 3:  Circle
This placemat with circle upon circle upon circle was perfect for the prompt "circle".

Day 4:  Animal
Just had to be my Trudy who is almost always attached to me.

Day 5:  A Fave Thing
My favorite thing was between sewing or my machine to sew with. The sewing machine won.

Day 6:  Me
'nough said...

Day 7:  Time
Time times three to keep tract of all the kiddos current time.

I have always enjoyed playing with my Sunday Snaps. I follow FatMum Slim’s Photo-A-Day. Each month she publishes a month of daily prompts. On Instagram she is #fmspad. I also hope you enjoy them.

QUILT GUILD UFO CHALLENGE

2017 is here; and, I am hopeful that it will be a great year. The last couple of weeks of 2016 threw me against the wall. I had one nasty cold or something.

So now I am looking forward to 2017 with a guild challenge to finish some UFOs. Each year we have the same challenge. You select five UFOs from your stack (some of us have more to select from than others).  Finished means quilted, bound, and labeled. The first one you can choose. Then the other 4 are picked at random. These are the five I have selected:

#1 (that’s a number sign for me) is “Random Hearts”. It has to be completed by January 11th. Yay, it’s done.

And, a close up of Bear's Quilt Shop quilting:

#2 What’s in My Garden?

#3 Quilt As You Go – Wonky Log Cabin

#4 Joe Cunningham’s - Modern City Block

#5 Bright Stripes quilt

I hope you have a good week and

Quilt happy,

Marilyn
