I HAVE A FINISH......WAHOO!

I finished!  Finally!  I first mentioned about this quilt on this post:   http://marilynpond.blogspot.com/2011/02/my-newest-project.html I needed to push back my grandson's school fundraiser quilt for a lot of reasons.  But, it is finally completed and ready to mail. Not at all too soon either.  Last night I was doing this:

I decided to make the faux piped binding:

And this is what will get auctioned on April 28th.

I hope you like it Kalani.

DO YOU SHOP HOP?

We are currently having a mini Shop Hop going on here in Southern California.  It is a very manageable run with only 8 shops.  Yesterday my BFF, Robin, and I went to all 8 shops.  I'm collecting whites and creams.  But, I also found a few other goodies.

Cute cookie cutters; and, I don't make cookies.

I see pillow cases and maybe a jelly roll race.  And, who can pass on simple charms? Really?

VISITORS

My granddaughter, Annette, and her college roommate are visiting from Idaho.  They have been having fun even though the weather has not been cooperating.  Yesterday we had moments of sunshine.  So a trip to the beach was necessary.

Then it rained, again.

But we were able to dine al fresco at my favorite dinner haunt

So far, today is gorgeous.

THINGS OFF MY LIST

Yesterday I made a couple of stars for "Just One Star" effort that Moda is participating in.  I have been seeing it all over Blog Land.  If you would like to participate to honor our soldiers you can read about it on this blog by Moda.  It needs to be to them by May 1st.

Then I finished a "Crochet with Fabric" purse I had started last year for my granddaughter.  It got put in the to-do pile and literally got buried.  When Annette and her college roommate decided to visit me over her Spring Break, I found it and even better, finished it.  Yay!  And, just in time.  They will be here this Saturday.

I've made her a couple before and she wanted a black one.  The lining is the fabric I used to crochet the bag.

I see I have 200 posts now.  You know what that means?  Yup.  Check back tomorrow.

Do you follow Micki's blog?  If you don't you really should.  She is originally from Philly and now resides in Ireland and you can find her here.

Each month Micki interviews a couple of blog owners and then introduces them to her blog followers.  I feel honored that she selected me for one this month.  You can read it here.  Micki has some wonderful stories to tell and I hope you get to know her wonderful spirit. Thank you Micki.

DESIGN WALL AND MORE

Today on my design wall is my Lyn Brown mystery quilt that I started last summer.  It is on my UFO list and needs to be finished by the April meeting.  Finished means complete with binding and label.

What do o you think? Will I make my deadline?

For the "More".
We had a very rainy December and my Italian Parsley, growing in a pot, decided to seed itself in my backyard lawn.  Tomorrow is the day my gardener comes and mows it down.  But I am tempted to take some scissors to it first.

Oh, there she is again.

SOMETHING QUILTY - JELLY ROLLS

I promised something quilty for today.  Last night my friendship group (well some of us) got together for a Jelly Roll Race.  This Jelly Roll Race is all over the Web right now.  If you haven't read about it, you can here.  Our group is not very competitive I've decided, or, we are pretty slow.  Except for Pam.  She finished her quilt top.  Still we had fun.

Sewing strips together like you would sew together binding

Sewing strips together and cutting the end loop

Another partially completed one

Pam's finished quilt top.  She cut her own strips from ten different fabric.  Isn't is great?

I made this while at last week's Two Wacky Women's Quilt Retreat.  How did that dog get in another picture?

GOING NUTS

Every morning Trudy goes a bit nuts.

Because she sees this.....

Apparently, this squirrel has a job at the other end of the block.  And, each day at about the same time it runs across the wires from one yard to the next (I'm glad he doesn't work in my yard).    I wonder what his job is besides agitating all the dogs in the neighborhood?

I promise I'll have something quilty to show you tomorrow.  I'm in a Jelly Roll Race tonight.

I SEE FEATHERS

We are back from our Two Wacky Women Quilt Retreat.  The ladies were all wonderful as usual.  And, Frances worked their little fingers to the bones quilting all kinds of wonderful things.  Here are just a couple of samples of the fun take-home samples they created.

I see feathers; do you?

IN THE KITCHEN AND MORE

I can't show you anything I have been doing this week because it is for our upcoming Machine Quilting Retreat with Frances Moore.  Someone might be looking.  But, it is good stuff.

So, instead I'll show you what I made in the kitchen.  Theodora, at Theodora Quilts, almost shamed me (almost).  She read my post on National Tortilla Day and decided that buying a package of tortillas and baking them crisp does not constitute making your own chips.  She is probably right.  This morning I put in the crock pot some pork and stuff to make Carnitas for tacos.  I was going to go to the store to buy some tortillas and I could just hear Theodora (and she lives in Greece) saying "make your own Marilyn".  I looked in the cupboard and I had some masa and by golly I did make my own tortillas.

Then I made some Pico de Gallo to go with it.  Voila, dinner.

But, then I thought I should maybe post of picture of the girls in my quilt room.  This is where they hang out when I quilt.

Do you think they want to share that bed?  That's what I think.

Quilt happy,
Marilyn
