NEW PROJECT - PART 1

I have a granddaughter who loves owls and turquoise.  I found this kit in my stash.

Pretty good I'd say.  It's cut out and ready to go. That's part one!

Hope your week is going well and

FAVORITE VEGETABLE

Do you have a favorite vegetable?  I love vegetables, eggplant, okra, asparagus, I'm not even going to get into salads.  But, I must say, my absolute favorite is the artichoke.

My mother always boiled her artichokes and I also cooked them this way most of my life.  However, lately I have been roasting them.  I found the recipe on Pinterest, another favorite thing.

I love how they turn out and I don't have to pay much attention to them while they are cooking. But, I'm not turning on the oven these days.  It's just too hot and humid here.  So, I found another artichoke recipe on Pinterest for crockpot artichoke.

Brilliant.  I know it won't be very fast; but, I have lots or time.  Ready to cook away while I'm sewing.

I'll let you know how it turns out.  And, I'd love for you to share your favorite veggie and recipe.  Now it's time to get back to my quilt room.

Hope you are having a good week and

BOY QUILT PART 2

I am this far into the Boy Quilt.  As you can see I picked blue for the sashing.  I only wish I had purchased enough to be able to extend that border out using the same fabric. But, I didn't so I will need to add more as it is growing up to be a twin-size quilt.

Stay tuned for part 3.  I have a few things that MUST get done first.

Hope you are having a good week and

Quilt happy,

BIRTHDAY BLOCKS

I belong to a friendship group that call themselves Talking Threads (AKA the TTs).  We meet once a month at different members homes. This year we are making birthday blocks (you chose your own theme) for each member and give them out on the birthday girl's month. Yesterday was our meeting and we have four July birthdays.  One TT selected Spools, any kind, any style, any size. Another selected the double pinwheel block in red, white, and blue.  And, another selected any 12" pieced star in red, white, and blue. I only wish I had pulled out my phone to take pictures.  I selected the theme "What's in my Garden" any size, any style.  Here is what I received:

Aren't they wonderful?  Each one is so unique; I love them all. Thank you ladies for a wonderful selection.  Oh, and today is my birthday.  Now to figure out a setting.  Let the fun begin!

Hope you are having a good week and

Quilt happy,

BOY QUILT 101

I've been making a boy quilt.  I finished the blocks while on my quilting retreat last week.  I waited for my design wall at home before putting it together. I'm going to use sashing and borders.

I suppose I should fix that one block first.  Sigh...

Have a good week and

Quilt happy,

HEXIE BOM

Have any of you been working on the Hexie Blog BOM? I am. I have ready to go, at various stages, through May. I'm still putting together June's and July's is still in my mind. But, I'm liking it.

I'm on a quilting retreat all next week.  Perhaps I'll get some hand stitching done in the evening.  Fingers crossed.
Have a good week and

Quilt happy,

LOST AND FOUND

Have you ever lost something (like an UFO) and swore that someone, some thief, some no-good scoundrel must have come into your quilt room and stole your UFO.  Only the one you are looking for. All the others are still there. That happened to me this week. So, on Friday I cleaned out one closet. I even refolded fabric and re-stacked the shelves. Nada.

On Saturday, I got out my step stool and checked every container on my shelving unit above where I sew.  Nada.

On Sunday, I was forced to go sort the scary closet.  You got it.  On the last shelf I sorted (which was probably a good thing), I saw that the no-good scoundrel(s) had returned the UFO.  Thank goodness I wasn't forced to call in the big guns, my peeps, to help.

So here it is on the design wall, and I realize I need more blocks to make it even.

It is from an on-line swap. But, for now, I have put it away until another time. However, I'm pretty certain I will be able to locate it when I want it next time. And, my quilt room is organized, for now.

Have a good week and
Quilt happy,

Marilyn

SNEAK PEEK

Sometimes you just need a quick one to put together, especially when it is earmarked for charity. I picked up this cute panel a while ago and promptly put it away. As I was looking for something else, I found it (I even found what I was actually looking for). Since my guild is getting together baby quilts for the Marine Base in September, this seems like a winner.

I did a bit of cutting, added some four patches, etc. I had purchased the backing along with the panel. So, I made a binding and now it is ready to go.

I am putting aside next week for quilting baby quilts.  Stay tuned.

Hope you are having a good week and

Quilt happy,
