ANOTHER FINISH

Another finish and already delivered to its new home.  This quilt was started last summer when Melinda Fulkerson taught Bonnie Hunter's Scrappy Mountains Majesties at a quilting workshop in Las Vegas.  I just finished the piping binding last week.

I love the way it manages to almost look scrappy by using one larger print fabric.  Thank you Melinda for a fun class and thank you Sue Salinger for the perfect job of quilting.

I'm so sorry I didn't think to pull out my camera to take a picture of little Maddie with her new quilt.  Story of my life.

ARMCHAIR CADDY

I think I may have found a way for my mom to keep track of her notebook I made her last week.  An armchair caddy.  There are all sorts of them around for sewing.  But, I designed this one just as a caddy.  My mom's chair is sort of Mauveish (is that a word)?  So I dug around in my stash until I found this:

I used some 809 Pellon interfacing on the lining and pockets, and 987F Fusible Fleece Pellon on the outside piece. It needed a pocket large enough to hold her notepad.

What do you think?

Me too.  And, her notebook fits perfectly.

SUMMER IN THE PARK IS FINISHED!

It is finished, completed, done including the label. 

Of course this has taken me a very long time to get from beginning to end. Largely because there is so much sewing to be done. I started this at the Riley Blake Fabric Fest that was held in Las Vegas, Nevada back in September of 2013.  (Wish they'd do another one; it was very fun). Jenny Doan, of Missouri Star Quilt Co., taught the Summer in the Park class using a 2.5" Rollie Pollie.  

Sue Salinger quilted it for me. She did a fabulous job. Thanks Sue! Here's a close up of the quilting.

A NOTEBOOK FOR MOM

My mom is living in an assisted-living care facility in Arizona.  She is 95.  When I called her today, I asked her to write something down so she would remember.  That's when she told me she didn't have any paper or pen.  Soooooooooooo

I made this for her today and it is getting mailed to her.  It's no guarantee she will be able to find it when she needs it; but, it's worth a shot.  Plus, she loves anything pink. You can find the pattern here.

IT'S FINISHED!

Well almost.  It's still a flimsy. 

However, I selected the backing and made up the binding. 

Since I only had a charm pack for this quilt, I had to scrounge around for binding.  I had barely enough of this fabric to put together a piping binding. It will work (she cautiously says).  You can find the pattern here.

 I have company for most of next week.  So, it won't be a quilt for another week at least.  I'll let you know when it is done.

UPDATE ON BABY QUILT

CHARITY BABY QUILT IN PROGRESS

My guild has sent out a call for baby quilts that are needed for an event that will be held at Camp Pendelton Marine Corp Base this summer.This is my go-to baby quilt that I like to make for charity baby quilts. It only takes 1 charm pack and 1.25 yards of background. Then bind it with what suits your fancy.

I collect pre-cuts, mostly because you can get such a good scrappy look that goes together. At least it suits me this way. I love baby quilts out of 30s fabric.This is a Moda Bakeshop pattern. I'll post more as I go along.

"MANY" I collect thread; I have many, many spools of threads.  Here are just a few.

"LOOKING UP"  Sweet Trudy, looking up at me.

"SILLY"  My fur babies being silly.

"STARTS WITH B"  Bedtime.  Awww..........

"LOOKING DOWN"  I could have driven over to Signal Hill and taken a picture down a hill.  Or, I could have climbed on a ladder and found something, maybe.  However, based on my track record, I really have no business on a ladder.  So, I decided that "Looking Up" could also be "Looking Down".

"WHO I AM"  Someone who sews and makes quilts.  This one is going to go live in Florida when it's done.

"FORGOTTEN" I had forgotten all about these Row by Row patterns that many of the quilt shops had last year. This is one of my favorites. I understand they are going to have them again starting on June 21st.

SOME ALMOST FINISHED

I have a ton of flimsies. But, thanks to Sue Salinger and Bear's Quilts and their long-arm businesses, I am down by seven.

Now to start binding. With seven to bind,  I may use the faux-piping method.  Besides, none of these are meant for a quilt show.  You can see the tutorial for the faux-piping binding here:  

I found this a few years ago on the internet and have been using this method ever since.   I heart it!
