PARTY TIME

One of my favorite Christmas parties was last week. It is a genius way to swap gifts. First, we each made 5 of the same gift. As we arrived, the hostess let you know what Christmas theme you would be for the day (I was Rudolph). Once everyone was there and had oooed and aaaed over the decorations, and we had a very nice lunch, the game began.  We each selected 5 different themes from a box, and of course not your own. The hostess would call out say “Elf”. Elf would then collect her five gifts and all those who had selected “Elf” out of the box received that gift. It is really great fun.

Here we are ready for lunch.

Lynette made this cutie.

This one is from Mary.

How cute is this raw-edge applique from Nancy.

Another patriotic beauty from Carol.

I love my tote made by Robin.

This will work as a toiletry or a sewing tote.

Here is my contribution; it's a binding kit.

What a group of talented women. What a group of wonderful friends. What a fun party. Thank you Pat for hosting and making us all feel so special!

I hope you have a good week and

CHRISTMAS TREE SKIRT

I am not putting up a big Christmas tree anymore, and since my daughter in Florida she said she would like this tree skirt, it is getting mailed to her today.

I made this at the first quilting class I ever took.

For years I had tied quilts, or made quillows.  And, I was sewing clothes since I was in Elementary School.  But, all of that was different.  So, when this class was available at a local sewing machine store, I decided to take it.  I signed up with Carol Logue, now a good friend, and picked up a supply list.  It gave yardage amounts and general supplies.  So off I went to find fabrics (the best part, right?).  I wanted an all gold and white tree skirt.  So, I picked up a variety of gold and white fabrics:  satins through cottons.

Thank goodness Carol did not laugh at me as I came in with my weird variety of "quilting" fabrics.  And, I did get it done.  Even Trudy likes it.  Thanks Carol for being my first quilt teacher.

NATIONAL ICE CREAM DAY

Sunday, July 15, 2012 is National Ice Cream Day.  Seriously!

“In 1984, Ronald Regan designated July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day. Baskin-Robbins, the world’s largest chain of ice cream specialty shops, commissioned an independent survey of 1,000 U.S. respondents to get the scoop on how Americans plan to enjoy ice cream this summer. According to the survey, 82 percent of Americans plan to enjoy ice cream during National Ice Cream Month this year.“

So go out and get an ice cream!  Wahoo!

Wishing everyone a happy and safe 4th of July.

Please keep in mind that fireworks can be scary for our 4-legged friends.  The 5th of July is the busiest day for animal shelters.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Definition of THANKSGIVING
: the act of giving thanks
: a prayer expressing gratitude
a: a public acknowledgment or celebration of divine goodness
Today is Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday of the year.  It is all about family and being thankful.  It is also when most of us take a moment and reflect on for what we are thankful.  I have so much for which to be thankful; but, here are 10 on my list.

10.         My first cup of coffee in the morning that helps me wake up and begin a new day.
9.            Life’s challenges as they as give me the opportunity to become a better person.
8.            Rainbows because they follow the storm and offer a promise of beauty.
7.            My home that gives me comfort and peace.
6.            My hobbies that keep my mind active and challenged.
5.            Emotions of all kinds for they let me know how alive I am.
4.            Pets for teaching me patience and giving me joy.
3.            Best friends for being there for me without even asking.
2.            My family that offers me more pleasure than I could ever imagine. I  love you so much.
1.            You for being here right now.

THINGS MOMS SAY

I found this on Yahoo and I know all of us, Moms or not, can relate.
No jumping on the couch!
Don't sit so close to the TV.
Who drew on the wall?
Well you're the only one who could have done it...
I have eyeballs in the back of my head.

Don't make me turn this car around...
No, you can't blow bubbles in the house.
You have until the count of three.
I am not buying you a puppy.
Or a pony.

Go ask your father.
Beds are not for jumping on!
Sit down and eat your dinner.
When you're a mom, you can do the grocery shopping.
What did you do at school today?
I don't believe you did nothing all day.
Your teachers let you do nothing?
Go wash your hands.
You can start cleaning anytime if you're bored
This room is a pig sty!
Why can't you put your clothes in the hamper?
Are your legs broken?
I am not the maid! This maid quits!
Close the door! You weren't born in a barn. I was there.
Where's your coat?
You can't go out there without a hat!
You are not wearing that out of the house.
You're going to step on a bee if you don't put on some shoes.
Come here, you have something on your face.
You'll poke your eye out.
What do you mean you don't know where it is?
You wouldn't see it if it jumped out and bit you!
If you put things where they belonged, you would know where they are.
Well, that's not what we do in our house
I don't care what your friends think.
I brought you into this world, I can take you out of it.
Where did you hear that word?
I don't care who started it...
You should know better
I'll wash your mouth out with soap.
I don't care if your Dad does say it. He's a grown-up.
You've got carrots growing in your ears.
Hurry up.
Christmas is coming.
You're slower than Molasses in January.
I'm leaving without you.
You kids grow up so fast.
You'll understand when you're older
It's my job to worry about you
Because I said so
I'll talk to you later
Be good.
I love you.

HAPPY EASTER

My mother always talks about going to the Hollywood Bowl as a young girl for sunrise services.  It was her mother's favorite part of Easter.

My mom is 91 and the Hollywood Bowl is still holding Easter Sunrise Service.

May you have a blessed Easter.

Halloween

Halloween is a big deal around here. My next door neighbors really do it up I tell you. Those life-sized ghouls are animated. And when the night comes on October 31, the black lights and dry ice come out and the little darlings run screaming half the time. It is hard to see, but the car (hearse) has a life-size skeleton as the driver. We get over 200 children each year on this block and it really is fun. I never seem to figure out the candy right. Last year I had too much, and this year not enough.

Here are my grandchildren in Florida in their Halloween costumes. So precious, don't you think?
On to November now.
