CHARITY QUILT & COMPANY

The charity quilt is finally finished and in the stack to go to next month's guild meeting.

I almost always pick out a busy backing (you can see less errors that way); but, this was already put together for quilting.  Someone had made the backing to fit and even had the binding put together and pressed.  What a great way to get help from members.  It was so easy to just layer and quilt.  The backing they put together for this quilt is plain. I sucked it up and in the end it turned out just fine.

I have a friend, Jenny Hall, visiting me from New Zealand.  Yesterday we went to the Bower's Museum in Santa Ana. A Schindler's List survivor, Laura Hillman, was the guest lecturer.  We were very inspired by her strength of character.
We had a lovely dinner out with Robin. Sorry, no pictures.
This morning we drove downtown to the Friday Farmer's Market and picked up some vegetables for tonight's dinner.  Then we came home and made five Click-It Bags from Robin's pattern
Jenny has plans for these. Aren't they cute?

Quilt happy,
Marilyn

THIS AND THAT

I haven't been sewing lately.  Two Wacky Women held a quilt retreat last weekend, featuring Lyn Brown.  There were 26 of us including the Wacky Women and Lyn.   Lyn designed this quilt for the retreat and we had a contest to name the quilt.
Lyn selected Gloria's name of Laguna Nights.  Isn't that a great name?  We all really had a great time.  Go check out our Two Wacky Women website and read about our 2012 retreats.

This weekend is Quilters by the Sea's quilt show.  I have three quilts that will be in the show.
They are packed and ready to take for hanging tomorrow.
The show is Saturday, October 22, & Sunday, October 23, 2011.  If you are in the area, I sure hope you can make it.  You can read about it here.

But for today, the two big elm trees are getting trimmed and the girls are at the groomers.

The trees get trimmed once a year.  The girls get groomed once a month.
Sewing next week.

Quilt happy,
Marilyn

Meeting Friends

Yesterday I had the pleasure to meet one of my C-R-A-F-T Yahoo Group friends: Jenny Hall from New Zealand. What a lovely lady. One of her reason's to visit Long Beach was to go to the International Quilt Festival. Jenny stayed at the Hyatt next door to the convention center and I met up with her about 11:00 AM on Monday. Sadly, we only had a short two-hour visit. However, we had a great time. We met and had a cup of coffee and I drove her to the Los Angeles Airport where she was heading to meet her two oldest children who are currently living in London. The world has become such a small place especially with the advent of the Internet and all the on-line groups. I have been able to meet and visit with Yahoo Group friends from Switzerland, Australia, Washington, Virginia and now New Zealand. If I missed any, forgive me. I have mentalpause. I hope I get to meet many more of you.
